OBI-WAN'S PATH AND TRIALS GUIDE

TRIALS OF OBI-WAN - OBI-WAN'S PATH AND TRIALS GUIDE ( SPOILERS!!! )
By SonGouki
Version 1.3
November 14, 2005

INTRODUCTION

There's trouble on the fiery planet of Mustafar. So much trouble, in fact, that the fate of the galaxy may even be threatened! Fortunately, a spirit of a noble and wise Jedi is trying to prevent the disaster. However, being unable to directly intervene, the spirit is searching for a being capable and willing to help stop this threat and save the galaxy. Could you be the one the spirit is looking for?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi is on Mustafar, and he is looking for players that are qualified for a visit from him to undertake his trials to save the fate of the galaxy.

In order to qualify for a visit, you must complete a specific set of quests on Mustafar, often referred to as the "Path to Obi-Wan". Once you have completed them all you will receive a visit from Obi-Wan's spirit a short while later and he will then start you on his trials.

Just to clarify this now, you do NOT need to be a Jedi or Force Sensitive to do any part of the path to Obi-Wan or his trials!

Note that if you abandon any of Obi-Wan's trials or for some reason his spirit isn't visiting you after completing the path, then you can use the Holocron located at the Shore of Remorse [815,-1468] to get Obi-Wan to appear. Unfortunately, it seems that there is a bug with Obi-Wan appearing for some players... He just won't, no matter how ‘qualified' they are. However, if you have completed all of the pre-requisites then you can speak to the Ethereal Spirit when he appears for other people. Either you can get someone to spawn him from the Holocron or you can wait at the static areas where he spawns during his trials for other people (around [-1170,-576] and at [186,3101]).

The following is a reference guide for the Path to Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan's Trials...

PATH TO OBI-WAN

You must complete the following nine quests to qualify for Obi-Wan's Trials. They can be completed in any order and are all on Mustafar. For a more in-depth guide to these quests please check out my Complete Reference Guide.
(thanks goes to Shanegru for originally discovering the path and to LgEnder for posting it in the ToOW Beta forums)

OBI-WAN'S TRIALS

Once you've completed the path Obi-Wan's spirit should appear and start you on his (extremely cool) trials...

1) Fate of the Galaxy [combat (voluntary)]
Rewards: none
Start: Ethereal Spirit, Mustafar
Part 1: Finding a madman - Speak to A Computer Technician [342,-1169] in the Mensix Mining Facility and ask him for a favor to use their computers to search for the wandering hermit (I paid him the 500 Credits he was asking... not sure if you have to or not though)
Part 2: Accessing the mainframe - Use the Computer Terminal at [328,-1164]; Radial menu: "Input search command"
Part 3: Loading, please wait - Takes about 10 seconds to perform the search...
Part 4: Search complete - Access the Computer Terminal again; Radial menu: "Check results"
Part 5: Target acquired - Last known location of hermit [-1170,-576]; Travel to the location given; When you arrive there it will tell you to look around the area for the hermit; Combat: A short while later 2 Blistmoks (CL75) will spawn and attack you, defeat them (optional)
Part 6: Success - The Crazed Hermit will appear nearby, converse with him; Combat: After speaking with him for a bit 4 more Blistmoks (CL75) will spawn and attack, defeat them (optional)
Part 7: The key - Speak with the Crazed Hermit again and convince him to give you his "gem"
Starts "Fate of the Galaxy, II" quest...

2) Fate of the Galaxy, II [combat (voluntary)]
Rewards: none
Start: Continuation of "Fate of the Galaxy" quest
Part 1: The key is yours - Speak to the Ethereal Spirit again; He should spawn nearby as soon as you complete the previous quest, if not you can ‘summon' him by using the Holocron at the Shore of Remorse [815,-1468] or talk to him when he appears for someone else
Part 2: The Ethereal Spirit asks you to strengthen the bond between you and the crystal by using the Shattered Conduits at the old Jedi ruins around Mustafar...
West enclave - Southern Jedi Ruins [-1587,229]
East enclave - Berken's Flow Jedi Ruins [3085,1148]
North West enclave - Northern Jedi Ruins [-2421,3034]
You must travel to each of the three conduits and use them; Radial menu: "Wedge crystal"; After that you will get a "Waiting" quest and you'll need to wait a few minutes for the crystal to finish charging; Combat: During that time 1 or 2 Brotherhood Mortalis Mercenaries (CL75) will spawn nearby and attack, you don't have to fight them though; A short while later the crystal will finish charging and you will get a "Done" quest, go back to the Shattered Conduit and get the crystal; Radial menu: "Take crystal"; Repeat for each conduit
Starts "Fate of the Galaxy, III" quest...

3) Fate of the Galaxy, III [combat]
Rewards: see notes
Start: Continuation of "Fate of the Galaxy, II" quest
Part 1: Crystal charged - Speak to the Ethereal Spirit again; He should spawn nearby as soon as you complete the previous quest, if not you can ‘summon' him by using the Holocron at the Shore of Remorse [815,-1468] or talk to him when he appears for someone else
Part 2: A journey against time - Travel to the Temple Ruins on the Burning Plains at [186,3101]; Combat: During your travels you may occasionally be attacked by 1 or 2 Brotherhood Mortalis Mercenaries (CL75) at a time, you don't have to fight them though; When you arrive before the sealed door the Ethreal Spirit will spawn, converse with him
Part 3: Destroying the crystal - A sealed door [186,3101]; Radial menu: "Enter the Lair of the Crystal"; Note that you can only enter the Lair of the Crystal alone, so this final part must be done solo, and it's hard so be prepared...

Lair of the Crystal Pictures: [1], [2], [3], [4]

Be aware that if you become incapped inside the Lair of the Crystal you will fail the trial and be immediately ejected from the instance. Don't worry, you can try the trial again, you'll just have to wait an hour for the lockout to expire.

1) Once you enter the instance head into the main chamber of the lair and approach the crystal suspended in the stand. The Ethereal Spirit will appear nearby and speak about the crystal. Shortly afterwards Lord Vartonis will enter the chamber and send a Brotherhood Mortalis Mercenary (CL75) to kill you, defeat it.

2) Realizing that he has underestimated your abilities, Lord Vartonis threatens you some more and then sends 3 Brotherhood Mortalis Mercenaries (CL75) at you this time. Defeat them all.

3) Lord Vartonis decides to kill you himself... He's a CL110 Boss Jedi with about 40K Health and he hits HARD!

However, while he's still busy threatening before the battle, Obi-Wan will tell you to use the power of the crystal. Immediately go to the Mysterious and Powerful Crystal in the Stand and use it; Radial menu: "Use the crystal's power". Lord Vartonis is about to attack you, if you don't use the crystal before he does you will likely go down in one hit and get ejected from the instance.

Luckily, the crystal gives you the following buff:
- Health +90,000
- Damage Bonus +2,000
- Defense Bonus +400
- Healing Efficiency +200
- Relative Level +15 (essentially upgrading a CL80 player to CL95, though your level doesn't visually change)
- Duration: 500 seconds (just over 8 minutes)

Yes, you read the above correct... too bad it wears out after you leave the instance, eh? Oh well, the point is that it gives you at least a fighting chance against Lord Vartonis.

Regardless though, even with that buff, Lord Vartonis will still be a tough fight. Use your best solo strategies and should do fine. Healing is kind of pointless during the battle, considering the massive amount of health you have, so your priority should be on trying to out-damage him. BTW, he likes to use a Saber Throw KD attack to open with, so either be prepared to knock him down first as soon as the fight starts or get ready to recover right away.

4) After defeating him he won't die, but simply retreat to lick his wounds, sending 5 Brotherhood Mortalis Mercenaries (CL75) after you in his place. With the crystal buff still active you can easily dispatch of them. However, shortly after defeating the last one Lord Vartonis will attack you again, so you should instead use this time to recuperate before that final battle.

I recommend killing 4 of the Mercenaries and then leaving the last one alive while you heal all of your damage from the first fight with Lord Vartonis. Remember that the time on the crystal's buff is limited, so don't take too long. Once you (eventually) finish that and you've fully regenerated, prepare yourself for the final climatic battle and kill the last mercenary...

5) Enraged and desperate, Lord Vartonis attacks you again with a new vigor. He'll still have some damage from the last battle (about 75% full Health), but he seems to be more vicious this time. You should still have the buff active from the crystal, so handle this battle pretty much the same as the last one. If you took the chance beforehand to fully heal and regenerate you shouldn't have any problems if you could beat him the first time.

With a good combination of skill and luck you should be able to kill Lord Vartonis, once and for all this time, completing the "Fate of the Galaxy, Part III" quest. When he falls, make sure you loot him to get the Lava Skiff Deed (guaranteed drop, no trade), it's your only chance to get this EVER.

6) However, even though the quest series is complete, Obi-Wan's mission is not...

As Obi-Wan explained in the beginning, the crystal is too powerful and evil, corrupting all who come in contact with it. The crystal must be destroyed and Obi-Wan asks you to complete this final task for him.

Approach the Mysterious and Powerful Crystal in the stand and make your decision: Do you "Destroy the crystal" or "Keep the crystal for yourself"?

The fate of the galaxy lies in your hands...

If you decide to honor Obi-Wan's wishes and destroy the crystal, you'll get the following:
Badge: Trials of Obi-Wan Savior
Shard of Retaliation:
- No Trade
- Health +250
- Mind Regen +200
- Reposte Melee Attacks
- Return Incoming Attacks
- Defense + 75
- Duration: 2 minutes
- Re-use: 15 minutes

If you decide to betray Obi-Wan and take the crystal, you'll get the following:
Badge: Trials of Obi-Wan Betrayer
Lair Crystal (drained):
- No Trade
- Accuracy +75
- Damage Bonus +75
- Combat Haste +15
- Action Regen +150
- Duration: 2 minutes
- Re-use: 15 minutes

(Note that you can only get one or the other, there's no coming back...)

Afterwards you will have 5 minutes in the instance before you will get removed. You can either wait, or go back to the area near where you entered the lair and use the exit.

Congratulations!
