To my understanding mast crush was due to speed increase and not primarily to depth. I don't think that the lens will break, its mostly due to hydrodynamic pressure on the masts. The pressure seal system has no reason to fail less if the mast is retracted. Lets not make it too complicated. The original DW is not that bad in this field, there are so many other things to fix in the game, that I could live with this one.
